As a dog owner, creating a warm and inviting ambiance in your home is essential, but it should never come at the expense of your furry friend's safety. Many dog owners wonder whether burning scented candles around their pets is safe. In this blog, we will explore the safety of St Eval Candles and how you can enjoy their charming scents while keeping your beloved dog's well-being in mind.
Understanding the Safety Concerns:
While St Eval Candles are renowned for their high-quality ingredients and eco-friendly practices, it is crucial to understand that any burning candle can pose potential hazards to pets if not used responsibly. The primary concerns associated with burning candles around dogs include:
- Toxic Fumes: Some candles, particularly those made from paraffin wax, may release harmful fumes when burned, leading to respiratory issues in dogs.
- Open Flames: Unattended open flames from candles can pose fire hazards, especially in households with curious and active dogs.
- Hot Wax: Spilled hot wax can cause burns or injuries to dogs if they come into contact with it.
St Eval Candles: Safe for Dogs?
St Eval Candles prioritises the well-being of their customers, including furry companions. Their commitment to using natural, vegan ingredients already sets them apart as a more pet-friendly option compared to candles made from paraffin or animal-derived ingredients. However, the safety of burning candles around dogs ultimately depends on how you use and manage them.
- Opt for Non-Toxic Ingredients: St Eval Candles are made from a blend of soy wax and mineral wax, which is generally safer than traditional paraffin candles. Soy wax burns cleanly and emits fewer toxic fumes, minimizing the risk to your dog's respiratory health.
- Choose Appropriate Locations: Always place burning candles in areas where your dog cannot access them, like high shelves or secure countertops. Avoid placing them on the floor or low surfaces, especially in areas frequented by your dog.
- Supervise and Never Leave Unattended: Never leave a burning candle unattended, especially if your dog is in the vicinity. Even well-behaved dogs can accidentally knock over candles, causing potential hazards.
- Consider Alternatives: If you have concerns about burning candles around your dog, consider using flameless options, such as St Eval's reed diffusers or wax melts. These provide a similar delightful fragrance without the risk of open flames.
St Eval Candles offer an excellent option for dog owners who want to create a cosy atmosphere while keeping their pets safe. By choosing candles made from natural, vegan ingredients like soy and mineral wax, you can significantly reduce potential risks to your dog's health. Remember to exercise caution and responsible candle usage, such as placing them in secure locations and never leaving them unattended.
Ultimately, with a mindful approach and a commitment to your dog's safety, you can enjoy the charming scents of St Eval Candles while maintaining a pet-friendly environment. A beautifully scented home is even more enjoyable when you know your four-legged friend is safe and content.

Unfortunately the St Evals website states differently with an attempt to detract from the use of paraffin through calling it ‘mineral wax’..
‘Our wax is a unique blend of both mineral and vegetable waxes. The mineral wax is from naturally occurring paraffin derived from crude oil which contains the organic wax of plants from millions of years ago and simply separated from the oil and cleaned.‘
Were the candles originally healthy and they sold out?
