Could cost of living crisis blackouts mean more people using candles to light the home?

We are living in highly uncertain times with astronomical heating bills heading our way this winter and rising mortgage interest rates, on top of the huge cost of fuel for our cars that we’ve been experiencing. There is also talk of winter blackouts plunging us into darkness reminiscent of days gone by when Britain was experiencing hard times such as the 1970’s ‘winter of discontent’. Home and Bay have seen a recent spike in sales of candles recently – could this be people prepping for winter blackouts - or are savvy shoppers simply getting ahead for Christmas?

Well, if people are stocking up on Home and Bay’s wide range of luxurious candles sourced from local suppliers in the South West then we can certainly guarantee that their homes will not only be lit up with a warm glow but also smell fantastic too! However, even though we are currently running some fantastic deals such as these discounted Tealights and Tin Candles, we think it would be unlikely that people would use these types of candles in times of energy blackouts. Possibly the most economic candle on sale at Home and Bay is this 6 pack of Ivory dinner candles currently priced at £12.95 which works out at just over £2 per candle, but we do appreciate that other sellers will sell basic candles at far cheaper prices.

So, it seems that people may be being super-prepared and making inroads into those Christmas lists early! And who can blame them for buying St Eval candles? They make fantastic gifts and will delight all those who receive them on the big day.

Let’s hope now that the markets have steadied and the UK government has put in place a more stable Prime Minister and cabinet that Britain will not see blackouts this winter and there will be no need for emergency use candles to see in the dark. We are also hoping this terrible cost of living crisis eases and we can get back to some resemblance of normality some time soon.
